This bill amends Delaware's education code to expand experience credit calculations for teachers and specialists who previously worked as Title 1 or instructional paraprofessionals. Specifically, the bill removes a previous restriction that limited experience credit calculations to only teachers hired after August 9, 2023, and now allows teachers hired before that date to also qualify for additional salary schedule credits. Under this amendment, teachers with at least 4 years of full-time experience as a paraprofessional who held a valid paraprofessional permit can receive 1 year of experience credit on the salary schedule for every 2 years of full-time paraprofessional work. The bill also clarifies that credit for these years of experience will start upon the date of completion and approval of an application to the employer. This change aims to provide more equitable compensation recognition for educators who transitioned from paraprofessional roles to teaching positions, regardless of their hire date.
