The bill defines a "vulnerable adult" as a person 18 years or older who, due to factors like isolation, sickness, disability, or mental illness, is easily susceptible to various forms of mistreatment. This includes adults for whom a guardian has been appointed. If convicted, the offender would be charged with a class A misdemeanor, which typically carries potential penalties like fines and/or up to one year in jail. The legislation aims to provide additional legal protection for adults who may be unable to adequately protect themselves from potential harm or exploitation.
