This bill amends Idaho's minimum wage law to gradually increase the state's minimum wage over several years. Specifically, the minimum wage will rise from the current federal rate of $7.25 per hour to $12.00 per hour on July 1, 2025, then to $15.00 per hour on July 1, 2026, and finally to $17.00 per hour on July 1, 2027. For tipped employees, the direct wages paid by employers will also increase, starting at $6.00 per hour in 2025 and reaching $8.00 per hour in 2027. The bill eliminates a previous provision that allowed employers to pay a lower wage to workers under 20 years old during their first 90 days of employment. Starting July 1, 2028, the minimum wage will be automatically adjusted annually based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), with adjustments rounded to the nearest five cents. The bill also prohibits local governments in Idaho from establishing minimum wages higher than the state-mandated rates. The legislation declares an emergency and will take effect on July 1, 2025.
