This bill modifies the provisions for special peace officers at the Minnesota State Fair by making several key changes to existing law. The bill updates terminology, replacing "clause" with "paragraph" when referencing peace officer definitions, and expands the responsibilities of fairground peace officers. Specifically, it now requires the Minnesota State Fair Society to provide police service and protection not only during the annual fair but also during major events that are expected to draw at least 2,500 attendees. These police services must cover the fairgrounds and an additional half-mile radius surrounding the fairgrounds. The bill maintains existing provisions that allow the society's president or secretary to appoint peace officers who have full arrest powers on fairgrounds, can remove offenders, and must wear an official badge while performing their duties. These peace officers can arrest individuals without a warrant for violating state laws or society rules and can remove offenders from the premises to be processed through the appropriate legal channels.
