This resolution honors the memory of Gladys Maurine Chatman, a dedicated school social worker and lifelong learner from Tennessee who made significant contributions to her community. Born in 1928 in Gleason, Weakley County, Chatman came from a family that prioritized education, and she herself was a valedictorian who graduated from Bethel College and Middle Tennessee State University. After moving to Nashville, she worked as a school social worker, helping middle and high school students realize their potential. In retirement, she continued to pursue knowledge through Vanderbilt University's Lifelong Learner courses and remained active in politics and community service, volunteering at St. Thomas Hospital and Meals on Wheels. An active member of Nashville First Baptist Church, Chatman was remembered as an exemplary public servant who improved the quality of life for her fellow citizens. The resolution, passed by the Tennessee General Assembly, honors her impeccable character, offers condolences to her family, and recognizes her significant contributions to her community and society.
