This bill amends the New York State tax law to create a week-long annual sales tax exemption for school-related purchases during the period surrounding Labor Day. Specifically, from the Tuesday before Labor Day through Labor Day itself, consumers will not be required to pay sales tax on a wide range of school supplies and computer equipment. The exempted items include comprehensive categories such as book bags, backpacks, books, computer hardware and software, writing implements (pens, pencils, markers, crayons), paper products (notebooks, index cards, folders), and learning tools (calculators, rulers, scissors).
