This bill amends Louisiana Revised Statute 21:204(A) to increase the maximum hotel assessment that a tourism organization can levy in Orleans Parish from one and one-quarter percent to two and three-quarters percent of the daily room charge. The assessment would be used for destination marketing, sales, public relations, and other activities that the tourism organization believes will benefit economic development, the traveler economy, and tourism growth. Before implementing this increased assessment, the tourism organization must first obtain approval through a board of directors resolution and then conduct a referendum vote among the hotels that would be assessed, in accordance with existing legal procedures. The bill is specifically focused on hotels in Orleans Parish and provides these organizations with more financial flexibility to support tourism-related initiatives. The proposed change would take effect on August 1, 2025, giving tourism organizations in the parish additional resources to potentially enhance local tourism marketing and economic development efforts.
