This bill establishes a voluntary contribution system for supporting local fire companies when Pennsylvania residents renew driver's licenses, identification cards, or vehicle registrations. Specifically, when applying for these documents, individuals can choose to add a $5 contribution for a one-year registration or $10 for a two-year registration directly to their regular fee. These contributions will be collected by the Department of Transportation and transferred quarterly to the newly created Local Fire Company Fund in the State Treasury. The State Fire Commissioner will then distribute the funds to local fire companies in the cities, townships, boroughs, and incorporated towns based on the contributions from registered vehicle owners in those areas. The bill provides a mechanism for the State Fire Commissioner to be reimbursed for administrative costs associated with implementing this program. The contribution is entirely optional for residents, giving them a simple way to directly support their local fire departments during routine vehicle and licensing transactions. The bill will take effect 60 days after its enactment.
