This bill amends the New York Civil Service Law to allow the commissioners of parks, recreation and historic preservation, environmental conservation, and the chancellor of the State University of New York to authorize geographic pay differentials for specific types of police officers. These differentials can be implemented when wage rates for police officers in a particular area are substantially higher than state-paid wages. The pay adjustment would apply to regional state park police, forest rangers, environmental conservation officers, and university police officers working in those higher-wage locations. The differential can be a percentage or fixed dollar amount, must be approved by the director of the budget, and will be added to the officer's base salary without affecting other compensation benefits. The pay differential is specific to the location and position, and will terminate if the officer moves to a different area or position. The director of the budget can create regulations to implement these pay differentials, and the bill takes effect immediately upon passage.
