This bill modifies the election procedures for filling vacancies on the Jefferson County Commission by updating several key provisions. The bill changes the terminology and process for special elections, specifying that when a vacancy occurs with more than six months remaining in a term, the position will remain vacant until the next scheduled countywide general election. For vacancies, the election commission must now adopt a resolution within seven days that sets the dates for a first primary election (to be held 45-60 days after the resolution), a potential runoff primary election (if needed, to be held at least four weeks after the first primary), and a general election (to be held 3-5 weeks after the last primary election). The bill also allows the election commission to coordinate these special election dates with any previously scheduled countywide elections.
