This bill amends Delaware's electrical licensing regulations to limit the time an individual can remain as a licensed apprentice electrician. The bill introduces a new category of "school apprentice electrician" for students enrolled in Board-approved vocational programs and establishes specific time limits for apprentice electrician licenses. Under the new provisions, apprentice electricians licensed for 5 years or more before July 1, 2026, will not be eligible to renew their license past its current expiration date. Those licensed for less than 5 years will have their license extended to expire 5 years from the current issue date. For new apprentice electrician licenses issued on or after July 1, 2026, the license will expire after 5 years. In all cases, the Board retains discretion to grant one-year extensions for good cause, such as completing an approved apprentice program. The bill also clarifies that school apprentice electrician licenses remain valid while the student is enrolled in a vocational program or until they turn 18, whichever is later. These changes aim to ensure that apprentice electricians are actively progressing toward becoming fully licensed electricians and maintain the quality and standards of electrical work in Delaware.
