This bill appropriates a total of $15,760,000 in nonrecurring funds from the General Fund to Wayne County for various public projects during the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The funding includes $5 million for a Rosewood Middle School capital project, $2 million for updating Dillard Middle School's athletic track, $1 million for water and sewer upgrades in the Village of Walnut Creek, $750,000 for the "Saving Union Station" revitalization project, $500,000 for a Wayne County Sheriff's Office training facility, $1 million for Wayne County United Way, $250,000 for Wayne County Alcohol Anonymous, $250,000 for the Tuscarora Council Scouting Program, $5 million for the Mattamuskeet Lodge Restoration Initiative, and $10,000 for the Pricetown Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally, the bill allocates $162,351 in recurring funds to the Administrative Office of the Courts for hiring an assistant district attorney in Prosecutorial District 9, and $2,347,071 in recurring funds to create a new Defender District 9 serving Green, Lenoir, and Wayne Counties, which includes hiring a Chief Public Defender, 10 Assistant Public Defenders, 2 Chief Investigators, 1 Social Worker, 1 Administrative Assistant, and 2 legal assistants. The act will become effective on July 1, 2025.
