This bill expands the circumstances under which individuals can legally carry concealed weapons other than handguns in North Carolina. Currently, a person can only carry such weapons (like bowie knives, daggers, stun guns, and other deadly weapons) when on their own property. The bill now allows individuals with a valid concealed handgun permit, or those exempted from obtaining such a permit, to carry these other weapons concealed, with the important caveat that they cannot do so in places where carrying a concealed handgun is already prohibited by law. Additionally, military personnel who can prove their deployment status are also granted this privilege. The bill specifically amends two sections of North Carolina General Statutes (14-269 and 14-415.11) to reflect these changes. The new provisions will become effective on December 1, 2025, and will apply to offenses committed on or after that date. Existing prosecutions for offenses committed before the effective date will not be affected by this new law.
