This resolution establishes the End Gun Violence in Disproportionately Impacted Areas Task Force, a comprehensive body designed to study and address gun violence in vulnerable communities. The Task Force will consist of 32 members, including state legislators, government agency representatives, law enforcement officials, nonprofit leaders, media professionals, and residents from areas experiencing high gun violence rates. Members will serve without compensation and are appointed by various state leaders, with the Executive Director of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority serving as chair. The Task Force's primary objectives include analyzing data, investigating root causes of violence, developing policy recommendations, and understanding the trauma associated with gun violence. The group is required to submit a final report to the General Assembly by December 31, 2026, after which the Task Force will be dissolved. The Department of Human Services' Office of Firearm Violence Prevention will provide administrative support, and the Task Force will meet at the call of its chair, reflecting a structured approach to addressing a critical public safety issue.
