The third report addresses law enforcement mental health, investigating the types and impacts of stress-related responses, available mental health resources and programs, usage of these resources, the need for mental health screening, and potential legislative tools to support officer wellness. Throughout the reports, the Attorney General is required to consult with multiple federal agencies and stakeholders including law enforcement agencies, academic institutions, and other relevant organizations. The bill is motivated by findings that show a rise in violence against police officers, with 60 officers feloniously killed in 2022 and nearly 30 percent of those deaths resulting from unprovoked attacks, and aims to demonstrate national support and respect for law enforcement professionals.
