This bill requires the State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY) to conduct comprehensive studies on the campus services available to veteran students. Each university system's board of trustees must examine existing veterans services offices, assessing the range of support services such as academic, financial, and career advising, as well as personal counseling. The studies will specifically analyze the ratio of veterans attending each college to the number of full-time counselors and advisors available to support them. Additionally, the boards must consult with relevant stakeholders to develop recommendations for improving and expanding services to better support veterans during their transition to college life. Within one year of the bill's enactment, each university system must submit a final report detailing their findings and recommendations to the governor, senate president, assembly speaker, and chairs of the higher education committees in both legislative chambers. The bill is designed to help improve support systems for student veterans and ensure they have adequate resources to succeed in their academic pursuits.
