This joint resolution recognizes and honors four law enforcement officers from Lee County who were awarded the 2024 South Carolina Sheriffs' Association Medal of Valor for their heroic actions during a critical incident. On September 19-20, 2024, these officers (Chief Deputy J. Chase Iseman, Lance Corporal Gene Mike Norris, and Special Agents Neal Nelson and Spencer Pumphrey) responded to a situation involving a suspect who had shot a police officer in McBee and was subsequently engaged in a dangerous confrontation. During the incident, the officers pursued the suspect, who was heavily armed and fired hundreds of rounds at their patrol vehicle, which contained a K-9 deputy. Despite the extreme danger, the officers maintained their pursuit, and in the ensuing gunfight, the suspect was wounded and later found deceased. The resolution highlights that the officers' swift and courageous actions prevented further potential tragedy, and they embody the highest ideals of law enforcement by risking their lives to protect citizens. As a final act of recognition, the resolution stipulates that a copy of the document will be presented to each of the honored officers.
