This bill amends existing New York state law to allow Westchester County to install and operate an additional traffic-control signal photo violation-monitoring device (a camera that captures images of vehicles running red lights) at one specific intersection on the Saw Mill River Parkway within the Village of Pleasantville. The bill expands the current authorized limit of 50 intersection cameras by permitting one more camera, but requires that the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) first provide written approval for this additional camera and retains the right to rescind or modify such approval at any time. The bill also authorizes Westchester County to design and implement a public information campaign to educate motor vehicle operators about the new photo violation monitoring program before the cameras become operational. Additionally, the county is authorized to install advance notice signage about these traffic cameras, in compliance with standard traffic control device guidelines, and must also obtain DOT approval before placing such signage on the Saw Mill River Parkway.
