This bill authorizes pharmacists to dispense HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) under specific conditions. For PrEP, pharmacists can dispense a 30-60 day supply after completing a specialized training program provided by the health department. Before dispensing, pharmacists must verify several patient conditions, including a negative HIV test within the past seven days, no signs of acute HIV infection, no contraindicated medications, and provide comprehensive written information about the medication. For PEP, pharmacists can continue to dispense a seven-day starter pack, as previously allowed. The new provisions will take effect 180 days after becoming law, allowing time for necessary regulatory preparations.
