This bill amends the economic development law to expand existing award programs and promotional efforts for New York state's craft beverage industry. Specifically, the bill requires the commissioner of economic development, in cooperation with the commissioner of agriculture and markets and the state liquor authority, to establish procedures for annual non-monetary awards in multiple beverage categories. These new award categories include "New York state liquor retailers awards", "New York state beer retailers awards", "New York state cider retailer awards", and "New York state mead retailers awards", in addition to the existing wine retailers awards. The awards will recognize restaurants and retailers who make exceptional efforts to inform consumers about the availability, diversity, and excellence of alcoholic beverages produced in New York state using locally grown products. The governor may issue up to three awards in each category annually. The bill also expands the state's promotional policies to encourage production and sale of New York-labeled beers, ciders, liquors, and mead, in addition to the existing wine promotion efforts. The act will take effect 90 days after becoming law.
