This bill creates a State Trust Lands Conservation and Recreation Work Group to study opportunities for conservation, recreation, and sustainable land management on state trust lands. The work group will make recommendations by September 1, 2026, to various state entities, including an interim report by March 16, 2026. The study will examine potential conservation leases, recreational opportunities, agricultural uses, and long-term stewardship of state trust lands, with a particular focus on protecting natural values, wildlife habitat, and open spaces. The bill also appropriates $393,506 to the Department of Natural Resources to support the work group's activities and requires the State Board of Land Commissioners to review and potentially update management policies based on the work group's recommendations by February 15, 2027.
