This resolution urges the United States Congress to delay the implementation of the REAL ID Act until 2026. Currently, only 25% of Louisiana's approximately four million drivers have obtained a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, with challenges including repeated enforcement deadline delays, the COVID-19 pandemic, and inconsistent application procedures. The Louisiana House of Representatives argues that residents need additional time to understand and complete the application process, which requires an in-person visit to the Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV). The resolution requests that Congress extend the deadline to 2026 and calls for transmitting the resolution to congressional leadership and Louisiana's congressional delegation.
