Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to octopus farming
AI Summary
This bill amends the environmental conservation law to prohibit the sale, offering for sale, or trade of any octopus that has been bred, raised, or harvested under controlled conditions specifically for human consumption; an "octopus" is defined as any species belonging to the order Octopoda, and this prohibition does not apply to octopuses taken from the wild or those raised solely for scientific or educational purposes. The bill also establishes penalties for violations, stating that a person could be fined up to one thousand dollars for each octopus, or parts thereof, sold, offered for sale, or traded in violation of this new law, and it will take effect sixty days after becoming law.
