This bill extends the authority of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to manage oysters from December 31, 2025 to December 31, 2027. Specifically, the bill amends an existing section of environmental conservation law to update the date through which the department can establish regulations for oyster management. These regulations can include a wide range of controls such as size limits, catch and possession limits, seasonal restrictions, closed areas, fishing gear requirements, permit rules, and guidelines for transportation, possession, and sale of oysters. The DEC's regulatory measures must maintain at least the same level of restrictions currently outlined in the environmental conservation chapter. The bill takes effect immediately upon passage, allowing the department to continue its comprehensive oyster management strategies for an additional two years without interruption.
