This bill increases the membership of the Lanesborough Select Board from three to five members. Currently, the town has a three-member Select Board, which is a common local governing body in Massachusetts responsible for municipal leadership and decision-making. Under the proposed legislation, at the first Annual Town Election after the bill's passage, three Select Board members will be elected with staggered terms: the top vote-getter will serve a three-year term, the second-highest vote-getter will serve a two-year term, and the third-highest vote-getter will serve a one-year term. Following this initial election, subsequent board members will be elected to three-year terms. The Select Board will continue to annually elect a chairperson from among its members after each Town Election. The bill would take effect immediately upon passage, allowing Lanesborough to expand its local governance structure and potentially increase representation and diversity in local government decision-making.
