This bill establishes the Alamo Commission, a new state entity dedicated to the preservation, maintenance, restoration, and protection of the Alamo complex and its surroundings. The commission will be composed of five members, including the governor, lieutenant governor, speaker of the house of representatives, and one member each from the senate and house of representatives. The presiding officer role will rotate among the top three officials every two years. The commission will have broad responsibilities, including entering into a memorandum of understanding with the City of San Antonio for improvements, coordinating with the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and managing an Alamo complex account to receive donations, grants, and other funding. The transition of powers from the General Land Office to the new commission is planned to be completed by January 1, 2028, with specific provisions for an orderly transfer of resources, contracts, and responsibilities.
