This resolution recognizes and honors wildlife rehabilitators in Louisiana by designating the last week of April 2025 as Louisiana Wildlife Rehabilitators Appreciation Week. The resolution highlights that these professionals are licensed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and provide critical services to native wildlife, meeting rigorous standards for animal care, including knowledge of housing, feeding, and medicating wild species. Despite providing these essential services entirely on a pro bono basis and covering all expenses out of their own pockets, wildlife rehabilitators save the state hundreds of thousands of dollars by caring for tens of thousands of displaced, newborn, orphaned, and injured wild animals. The resolution calls on the House of Representatives to commend these rehabilitators, urges residents and public officials to recognize and support their efforts, and directs that a copy of the resolution be transmitted to the president of the Humane Society of Louisiana as a formal acknowledgment of their important work.
