This bill, titled the "Cahokia Mounds Mississippian Culture Study Act," authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a special resource study of the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, the Emerald Mounds in St. Clair County, Illinois, and the Pulcher Mounds in Monroe and St. Clair Counties, Illinois. The study will evaluate the national significance of these sites, determine if they are suitable and feasible for designation as a unit of the National Park System, and explore other preservation and protection alternatives involving various governmental entities and private organizations. The Secretary will consult with interested parties, including applicable Indian Tribes (defined as tribes recognized by the federal government), and identify cost estimates for potential federal involvement. The study must be completed and a report submitted to relevant Congressional committees within three years of funding being made available.
