This resolution congratulates The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) chess team for earning a share of the national championship at the 2025 President's Cup tournament, held in Dallas. The Vaqueros chess team achieved this honor after a remarkable performance, qualifying for the tournament by winning the Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Championship in January, where they were the only team among 91 competing squads to achieve a perfect score. Despite entering the tournament ranked fourth, the team rallied in the final round to tie Webster University with a total score of 7, securing their fourth national title in seven years. The team's success was attributed to the contributions of several grandmasters and international masters, including Gleb Dudin, Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux, Jose Cardoso Cardoso, Jakub Fus, and Ekin Baris Ozenir, who were guided by coach Bartek Macieja and program manager Anthony Colt Smith-Muñoz. The resolution formally recognizes the team's achievements and extends best wishes for continued success, with an official copy of the resolution to be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
