This bill amends the vehicle and traffic law to expand who can obtain disabled person license plates by creating a broader definition of "eligible persons" who can apply for these special registration plates. Currently, only severely disabled individuals could get such plates, but the new law allows parents, spouses, guardians, caregivers, and other family members responsible for transporting a severely disabled person or severely disabled veteran to also qualify. The bill will take effect 90 days after becoming law, with provisions for implementing necessary regulations in advance of the effective date.
