This resolution honors the life of Officer Andrew William Duarte, a law enforcement professional who died in the line of duty on February 22, 2025, at the age of 30. Born in Oakland, California, Duarte was a 2013 graduate of Berean Christian High School and earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the California University of Pennsylvania in 2016. He began his law enforcement career as a seasonal officer with the Ocean City Police Department in Maryland and later worked for the Denver Police Department from 2017 to 2022, where he became a Drug Recognition Expert and was recognized as the youngest to achieve this certification in Colorado. In 2021, he was named the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Colorado Hero of the Year for his work in impaired driving enforcement. For the past three years, he served with the West York Borough Police Department and was known for his dedication to preserving and protecting the safety of citizens. The resolution acknowledges his professional achievements, personal interests, and the positive impact he had on those around him, ultimately extending condolences to his family and honoring his service and sacrifice.
