This bill updates South Carolina law to allow for more flexible methods of providing legal notices, particularly in real property actions and probate proceedings. For lawsuits affecting real property where parties are unknown or their addresses cannot be found, service by publication can now be made in either the print or online version of a newspaper of general circulation in the relevant county. Similarly, when notifying creditors of a deceased person's estate, the personal representative can now publish this notice online on a centralized website for the South Carolina Probate Court, in addition to or instead of publishing it in a local newspaper. This change aims to modernize the process and potentially reduce costs, while still ensuring that creditors and other interested parties are adequately informed.
