This bill amends existing law to allow retired county employees to be re-employed by a county sheriff's office, including sheriff's office correction employees, or a county prosecutor's office without forfeiting their retirement allowance. Previously, re-employment by the county from which an individual retired could lead to the suspension of their pension or retirement benefit unless specific conditions were met, such as working no more than 1,000 hours per year or being elected to a different office. This change, found in section 12a of 1851 PA 156, specifically adds employment in a county sheriff's office or prosecutor's office as an exception where a retirant can continue receiving their retirement benefits while employed.
