This concurrent resolution congratulates Mapenzi Selemani, a junior at Winooski High School, for winning the 2025 Poetry Out Loud Vermont State championship and commemorates the 20th anniversary of Poetry Out Loud, a nationwide high school poetry recitation competition supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. The resolution highlights that Poetry Out Loud aims to improve students' public speaking skills, build confidence, and teach literary history, with over 4.5 million students from 21,000 schools having participated since its inception. In Vermont, 3,200 students from 24 local classrooms participated in the competition this year, with Selemani emerging as the state champion by reciting poems by Thomas Hood and William Wordsworth. The resolution officially congratulates Selemani and directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to Selemani, the Flynn, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, and the Vermont Arts Council.
