This resolution urges Congress to designate the Buckeye Trail as a National Scenic Trail, a designation given by Congress to routes that showcase outstanding scenic, natural, and recreational values across the United States, similar to well-known trails like the Appalachian Trail. The Buckeye Trail is an existing 1,454-mile loop trail in Ohio, established in 1959 by the Buckeye Trail Association, that passes through diverse landscapes from Lake Erie to the Ohio River. The National Park Service is currently studying the feasibility and desirability of this designation, assessing how well the trail meets federal requirements for public access and preservation, and will submit its findings to the Secretary of the Interior, who will then make a recommendation to Congress. The resolution also directs that authenticated copies of this request be sent to key members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, Ohio's congressional delegation, and the Ohio news media.
