If a country is designated as a terrorist sanctuary, the President may impose sanctions on government officials, including revoking their visas and making them inadmissible to the United States. The bill encourages the State Department to pursue aggressive efforts against Iranian proxy networks by demanding that governments take action against Hezbollah, working with international allies to pressure uncooperative jurisdictions, and persuading Latin American countries to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Congress finds that Hezbollah has been building regional networks with little opposition, with only a few Latin American countries currently classifying it as a terrorist organization, and that the group has been focusing on infiltrating criminal networks, money laundering, and sophisticated smuggling operations. The sanctions imposed under this bill would automatically sunset after five years, providing a time-limited approach to addressing the threat.
