This bill amends existing New York state law to expand opportunities for assisted living program providers to add beds under specific conditions. The legislation allows existing assisted living program providers licensed on or before April 1, 2024, to apply to the Department of Health to add up to nine additional beds without requiring major renovation or construction. To be eligible, providers must agree to dedicate these beds to individuals receiving medical assistance, be in good standing with the Department of Health, and comply with state and local requirements. Providers licensed on or before April 1, 2024, can submit applications beginning no later than May 1, 2025, under an expedited review process that requires the Department of Health to certify additional beds within 90 days of receiving a satisfactory application. The number of additional beds approved will be based on previously awarded beds that were either withdrawn by applicants or denied by the department. This bill aims to provide a streamlined process for assisted living programs to modestly increase their capacity to serve medical assistance recipients.
