This bill provides seniority service credit to educational support professionals (school district employees who are not teaching staff) for their military service. Specifically, the bill allows these professionals to receive up to four years of employment or seniority credit for their active military service, as if they had been working in the school district during that time. To qualify, the professional must be declared eligible for federal veterans' benefits by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (previously referred to as the Department of Defense). This military service credit can include service that occurred before the professional was hired by the school district, which means previous military service can be retroactively applied to their seniority calculation. The bill aims to recognize and reward the military service of educational support professionals by providing them with additional employment credit. The legislation will take effect immediately upon enactment.
