This bill requires health insurance carriers (companies that provide managed care plans) to automatically approve credentialing applications for physicians who are licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners and are in good standing. The bill modifies an existing law to streamline the credentialing process by mandating that if a physician's application demonstrates their license is current and without issues, the carrier must approve their participation in the provider network. Carriers are still allowed to request additional information from applicants, but cannot duplicate information already provided in the universal application form. Previously, carriers had 180 days to process these applications, but now they are required to approve them promptly if the physician meets the good standing requirement. The bill applies to both initial credentialing applications and credential renewal applications, with the goal of making it easier for physicians to join and remain in insurance carrier networks in New Jersey.
