This bill requires non-fireproof multiple dwellings located in cities with a population of one million or more to undergo comprehensive fire safety inspections every three years. Building owners, agents, contractors, or lessees must submit detailed fire safety inspection reports every three years, documenting any hazards found and the repairs made. Owners who fail to address compliance issues will face additional $100 per day fines, and if non-compliance continues for six months or more, a lien will be placed on the property. The bill also allows owners to contact the appropriate agency for assistance with inspections in potentially dangerous areas, and grants the New York City Department of Buildings the authority to create rules and regulations to implement these requirements.
