This bill amends the Retirement and Social Security Law to prevent certain public or quasi-public organizations from participating in the state retirement system for newly hired employees. Specifically, individuals first employed on or after the effective date of this law by the New York State Association of Town Superintendents of Highways, Inc., the New York State School Boards Association, the New York State Association of Counties, the Association of Towns of the State of New York, the New York Conference of Mayors and Other Municipal Officials, or any school board association will no longer be eligible to participate in or receive service credit in the retirement system based on that employment. This change aims to limit future participation in the New York State and Local Employees' Retirement System (NYSLERS) for these specific organizations' new hires, with no anticipated cost to the retirement system itself.
