A 2021 report revealed significant gaps in coach training, noting that less than half of youth sports coaches were trained in CPR and first aid, only one-third received injury prevention training, and just a quarter were trained to manage concussions. The recommended training program would cover critical areas such as emergency preparedness, concussion and head trauma management, heat-related injury prevention, physical conditioning, recognition of heart defects, infectious disease prevention, mental health awareness, and strategies to prevent destructive social behaviors. By urging BESE to make this training accessible, the resolution aims to improve coach preparedness, reduce injury risks, and ultimately enhance student athlete safety across Louisiana.
