This bill provides a special exemption for Nicole Longo, a resident of the village of Bronxville in Westchester County, to take the competitive civil service examination for the position of police sergeant, bypassing typical service requirements or other legal restrictions. If she successfully passes the examination, she will be eligible to be placed on the eligible list for appointment as a full-time police sergeant with the Bronxville Police Department. While granted this unique opportunity, Longo will still be subject to the standard merit and fitness provisions of the civil service law that apply to full-time police sergeants. This type of bill, known as a "special act" or "local bill," is sometimes used to address individual circumstances that do not fit neatly within existing general laws. The legislation would take effect immediately upon passage.
