This resolution welcomes Eliza Reid, a Canadian-born writer and former First Lady of Iceland, to the Rhode Island State House, recognizing her significant achievements and contributions. Reid, who grew up on a farm near Ottawa and has advanced degrees from Trinity College and Oxford University, moved to Iceland in 2003 and became a prominent freelance writer, co-founding the internationally acclaimed Iceland Writers Retreat. After marrying Guðni Th. Jóhannesson in 2004 and becoming First Lady in 2016, she actively promoted gender equality, entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability while supporting Iceland's literary heritage. The resolution highlights her bestselling book "Secrets of the Sprakker: Iceland's Extraordinary Women and How They Are Changing the World" and her work as a Goodwill Ambassador for SOS Children's Villages and a United Nations Special Ambassador for Tourism. The Senate warmly welcomes Reid to the State House, congratulates her on her accomplishments, wishes her continued success, and directs the Secretary of State to send her a certified copy of the resolution.
