This resolution mourns the passing of Jane Elisabeth (Shears) Emerson, a lifelong resident of Divernon, Illinois, who died on May 2, 2025. Born in Springfield in 1940, Jane was a graduate of Divernon High School and was married to Leonard Emerson for 64 years. She was a stay-at-home mom who later worked alongside her husband in their family business, Emerson Press, which they started in 1968. Jane was deeply involved in her community, serving as the organist at the Divernon Presbyterian Church for over 65 years, sitting on the church board, working as secretary of the Divernon Public Library Board, and being a lifetime member of the Divernon American Legion Auxiliary. The resolution acknowledges her roles as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and notes that she is survived by her husband, five children, a brother, 11 grandchildren, and three great-granddaughters. The Illinois Senate officially expresses its condolences to her family and resolves to present a copy of the resolution to her family as a symbol of sympathy.
