This resolution pays tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Nedra Kay Swart Kinerk, a distinguished educator, civic leader, and community activist from McAllen, Texas, who passed away on May 13, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Frankton, Indiana, in 1932, Dr. Kinerk had a successful academic career, earning multiple degrees from Ball State Teachers College and becoming a professor and administrator at Indiana University's Kokomo campus. After moving to Texas in 1988, she became deeply involved in the Rio Grande Valley community, co-founding Futuro McAllen (later Futuro RGV), helping establish the McAllen Heritage Center, and serving on numerous municipal boards and committees. Her significant contributions were recognized through various honors, including being named McAllen's Woman of the Year in 2014 and inducted into the RGV Walk of Fame in 2020. The resolution extends heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends, acknowledging her warm personality, generosity, and unwavering dedication to public service, and formally memorializes her by requesting an official copy of the resolution be prepared for her family, with the Texas House of Representatives adjourning in her memory.
