This bill amends the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law to allow vehicles powered by alternative fuel technologies to exceed standard weight limits by up to 2,000 pounds. Specifically, the bill applies to vehicles primarily powered by natural gas, propane gas, hydrogen, or electric battery power. The additional weight allowance would apply to existing weight limitations in several subdivisions of Section 385 of the vehicle and traffic law. However, the bill includes an important caveat that this weight exception does not permit vehicles to exceed posted capacity limits for highways or structures.
