This bill amends the environmental conservation law to authorize the use of Class One e-bikes (electric bicycles that provide assistance only when the rider is pedaling and stop providing assistance when the bicycle reaches 20 miles per hour) on state preserves, parks, and other lands where traditional bicycles are already permitted. Specifically, the bill allows the Department of Environmental Conservation to enable the use of these electric-assist bicycles in the exact same locations and under the same conditions as non-electric bicycles are currently allowed. This means that if a particular state park or preserve already permits bicycle riding, Class One e-bikes would now be permitted in those same areas. The bill removes any existing restrictions that might have previously prohibited the use of electric-assist bicycles on these state lands, effectively treating Class One e-bikes the same as traditional bicycles. The legislation takes effect immediately upon enactment.
