This bill provides alternative paths for mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and psychoanalysts who were licensed prior to June 24, 2027, to obtain diagnostic privileges without completing the standard two thousand hours of supervised direct client contact. The bill offers three specific ways for these licensed practitioners to qualify: first, by filing an application and providing verification of twelve credit hours of clinical coursework from an acceptable college or university that prepares them to diagnose, develop treatment plans, and work with diverse populations; second, by demonstrating at least two years of employment in a licensed or approved mental health setting with verification from a supervisor; or third, by being licensed for a minimum of two years and either completing six credit hours of clinical coursework or obtaining twelve hours of continuing education in clinical content. Importantly, the bill also removes the previous $175 application fee for obtaining diagnostic privileges. This legislation aims to provide experienced mental health professionals with a more streamlined path to expand their practice capabilities, recognizing their existing professional expertise and experience.
