This bill provides a specific retroactive retirement system membership correction for Giuseppe T. Rosini, who was employed by the Wading River Fire District from October 2004 through December 2008. Due to an administrative error by the Wading River Fire Department, Rosini was not initially enrolled in the New York state and local police and fire retirement system during his employment. As a result, when he eventually joined the system in December 2014, he was classified as a Tier VI member instead of the Tier II member he would have been eligible for at the time of his original employment. The bill allows Rosini to retroactively become a Tier II member if he files a written request with the state comptroller within six months of the act's effective date. Any employee contributions he has made will be credited toward the costs associated with implementing this change. The past service costs will be split between the Wading River Fire District (for his original employment period) and the Town of Riverhead (where he is currently employed). The fiscal note estimates an approximately $18,000 annual increase in contributions for the Town of Riverhead and an immediate past service cost of about $2,880. The bill would take effect immediately upon passage.
